De ‘Old Town Road’ remix van Lil Nas X gaat wereldwijd viral. De country-rap met Billy Ray Cyrus zorgt in Amerika al voor de eerste plaats in de iTunes charts. In De Britse midweek chartcijfers stijgt Lil Nas X van #39 naar #4. Bij Billboard zitten ze een beetje in de maag met de remix van Lil Nas X. De nieuwe versie is verwijderd uit de country chart, want de song is “not embracing enough elements of today’s country music in its current version.”
Cyrus omarmt de nieuwe versie: “It was so obvious to me after hearing the song just one time. I was thinking, what’s not country about it? What’s the rudimentary element of a country and western song? Then I thought, it’s honest, humble, and has an infectious hook, and a banjo. What the hell more do ya need?”
