Vandaag openen we de Kluis voor de Flops voor Foreigner. Want met de classic ‘Feels like the first time’ haalde de band nooit de Nederlandse Top 40. Deze debuutsingel van de Brits/ Amerikaanse groep uit 1977 werd geschreven door Mick Jones en stond op het album ‘Foreigner’. Jones, gitarist en frontman van Foreigner vertelt over het ontstaan van de singel:
“”Feels Like The First Time” was written about a bit of a change in my life. I was coming out of a previous marriage with somebody I’d met in France. I’d gone back to England and then finally made the journey to America while I was in the band Spooky Tooth. And to me it was this challenge of really going for a new start in my life. … to me it was signifying a new start. I’d met somebody, I got re-married and moved with her to America, and that was the song that described that experience.”
De singel ‘Feels like the first time’ was in Amerika heel succesvol, waar het de 4e plaats behaalde in de Billboard Hot 100. In Nederland stond het 7 weken genoteerd in de Tipparade. In het najaar van 1977 werd ‘Cold as ice’ hun eerste hit in ons land.
