The Wombats trappen een nieuwe fase van hun constant evoluerende succesverhaal af met de aankondiging van hun vijfde studioalbum ‘Fix Yourself, Not The World’, dat op 7 januari 2022 via AWAL wordt uitgebracht. Na ‘Ready for the high’ volgt opnieuw een voorproefje: ‘Everything I Love Is Going To Die’. De titel klinkt wel heel somber, maar zo klinkt de single niet, want die is catchy. Het nummer schopte het al tot Hottest Record in the World bij BBC Radio 1.
Matthew “Murph” Murphy vertelt: “The song is about the impermanence of life, and with that in mind, the beauty of each passing second. Key line for me is ‘Icarus Was My Best Friend, So I’m Gonna Make Him Proud In The End’, which I guess is a playful take on living life to its fullest even though the consequences of that might be dire. Certainly not a call to Nihilism however, but perhaps a call to being present and the joy that can be found in appreciating each moment we find ourselves in.”
The Wombats namen het album ‘Fix Yourself, Not The World’ afgelopen jaar op afstand op vanuit hun respectievelijke huizen en heeft hard gewerkt om wellicht wel de boeiendste, inventiefste en meest vooruitstrevende muziek uit hun carrière tot nu toe te produceren. Op 18 mei stelt de band hun nieuwe album voor in SPOT/ De Oosterpoort in Groningen.
