Voor het eerst sinds 17 jaar komt Tears For Fears met een nieuw album. De titelsong ‘The tipping point’ behaalde al een notering in de TOP 40 van Hitzound en dat gaat ook met deze nieuwe single gebeuren: ‘Break the man’. Het nummer werd geschreven door bandlid Curt Smith en Charlton Pettus. Over het nummer zegt Curt in een statement: “Break the Man’ is about a strong woman, and breaking the patriarchy. I feel that a lot of the problems we’ve been having as a country and even worldwide to a certain degree has come from male dominance. It’s a song about a woman who is strong enough to break the man. For me, that would be an answer to a lot of the problems in the world – a better male-female balance.”
Het duurde even voordat de plaat ‘The Tipping point’ werd gerealiseerd, wat alles te maken had met o.a. wisselingen in platenlabels en een nieuw mamagement. Het Britse popduo, bestaande uit Roland Orzabal en Curt Smith, bracht in 1982 hun eerste single ‘Mad World’ uit. Drie jaar later verscheen hun grootste hit. “Shout’ bereikte de 1e plaats in de Nederlandse Top Veertig. Ook ‘Everybody Wants To Rule The World’ en ‘Sowing The Seeds Of Love’ eindigden hoog in de lijst.
