Een ode aan de classic California sounds in de sixties: zo kun je de nieuwe single ‘West coast’ van OneRepublic omschrijven. Het nummer is na de hit ‘Sunshine’ de 2e voorbode van hun zesde studioalbum. De band werkte al in 2016 aan het nummer, ten tijde van hun LP ‘Oh my my’, maar de mannen besloten het nummer te bewaren voor later. Een eerste versie van de track werd al gebruikt in U2’s single ‘Summer of love’ (2017).
Frontman Ryan Tedder zegt over de nieuwe song: “What might be my favourite song on the album, which will be for the summer, is called ‘West Coast’ and it’s like The Mamas and the Papas – California Dreamin’ and The Beach Boys, but with drums that are like Gorillaz. It’s the craziest, coolest about-face ‘here comes the summer.” Dit voorjaar komt One Republic naar Nederland! De Amerikaanse band speelt op 29 april in AFAS Live.
