Pink Floyd heeft vandaag ‘Hey, Hey, Rise Up!’ uitgebracht. De band spreekt in de single hun steun uit voor de Oekraïnse bevolking en zal alle opbrengsten aan Oekraïne doneren. Het is de eerste originele muziek die de band samen heeft opgenomen sinds The Division Bell (1994), en de eerste release sinds het album The Endless River (2014). David Gilmour en Nick Mason worden vergezeld door Pink Floyd-bassist Guy Pratt en Nitin Sawhney op de toetsen. Andriy Khlyvnyuk van de Oekraïense band Boombox complementeert het nummer met zijn buitengewone stem. Gilmour, die een Oekraïense schoondochter en kleinkinderen heeft, zegt: “We, like so many, have been feeling the fury and the frustration of this vile act of an independent, peaceful democratic country being invaded and having its people murdered by one of the world’s major powers. I hope the track will receive wide support and publicity. We want to raise funds for humanitarian charities, and raise morale. We want to show our support for Ukraine and in that way, show that most of the world thinks that it is totally wrong for a superpower to invade the independent democratic country that Ukraine has become”.
