✍️ Hitzound Review : Kingfishr
Het Ierse indie-folk trio Kingfishr brengt op 22 augustus hun langverwachte debuutalbum ‘Halcyon’ uit via B-Unique Records / Warner Music. Het album is geschreven in de thuisstudio op de familieboerderij van Eoin “Fitz” Fitzgibbon, de bassist van de band, in het Ierse Tipperary. De nieuwe single ‘Diamonds & Roses’ is nu uit!
‘Halcyon’ weerspiegelt de kenmerkende stijl van een band die moderne indie-rock verweeft met de klanken en emoties van hun traditionele Ierse achtergrond. Over hun sound zegt Eoghan ‘McGoo’ McGrath:“There is a long history of spoken word in Ireland that defines us as a culture. There’s something of that authentic Celtic vibe that I think people are still hungry for. In a way, that’s what we’re trying to achieve, whilekeeping it fresh at the same time.”
Kingfishr staat bekend om het vertalen van persoonlijke verhalen naar muziek die universele gevoelens raakt. In de nieuwe single ‘Diamonds & Roses’ komt die emotionele kracht duidelijk naar voren.Met de warme bariton van frontman Eddie en de sfeervolle, gelaagde arrangementen van McGoo en Fitz ontstaat een sound die doordrenkt is van melancholie, verandering en hoopvolle romantiek. Het nummer is geschreven door Kingfishr samen met Billy Joel, Jim Eliot (Ellie Goulding, Will Young, Kylie Minogue) en geproduceerd door David Anthony Curley. Eddie over de single: “Diamonds & Roses is about how much things change. It’s about the death of the status quo and the price we all pay for that. It’s about the terror of existence, but in spite of that it’s about the good that shines through.”
Komende zomer staan Lowlands en Pukkelpop op de agenda van Kingfishr, gevolgd door een uitgebreide eigen headline-tour door Engeland en Europa, met shows in onder andere Paradiso, Oosterpoort en 013.
