‘I am not a woman, I’m a god’ is de nieuwe single van Halsey. Het staat op haar nieuwe plaat ‘If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power’, die vooral zwangerschap en geboorte als centrale thema heeft. Geen wonder, afgelopen juli beviel de zangeres van haar eerste kindje. Het album maakte Halsey samen met de Amerikaanse rockband Nine Inch Nails. Gezamenlijk produceerden ze de hele plaat en schreven ze met Halsey mee aan alle songs.
Het album volgt op ‘Manic’ uit 2020. Halsey zegt in een statement over ‘If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power’: “This album is a concept album about the joys and horrors of pregnancy and childbirth. It happened by accident. I wasn’t trying to make a political record, or a record that was drowning in its own profundity—I was just writing about how I feel. The reason that the album has sort of this horror theme is because this experience, in a way, has its horrors.”
