Op 1 februari 1964 bereiken The Beatles voor de derde maal de eerste plaats in de Amerikaanse Billboard Hot 100 met ‘I Want To Hold Your Hand’. Het nummer werd gepend op 16 oktober 1963 in de kelder van de familie Asher. Het was het huis van Paul Mc Cartney`s vriendin Jane Asher.De track begon als een gospelparodie en daarom perfect geknipt voor de Amerikaanse markt. Het wordt daar ook de best verkochte single van 1964. In totaal zullen The Beatles 22 nummer 1 hits scoren in Amerika.
John Lennon over ‘I Want To Hold Your Hand’: “We wrote a lot of stuff together, one on one, eyeball to eyeball. Like in I Want To Hold Your Hand, I remember when we got the chord that made the song. We were in Jane Asher’s house, downstairs in the cellar playing on the piano at the same time. And we had, ‘Oh you-u-u/ got that something…’ And Paul hits this chord, and I turn to him and say, ‘That’s it!’ I said, ‘Do that again!’ In those days, we really used to absolutely write like that both playing into each other’s noses.”
