Aankomende vrijdag duikt de seventies disco classic ‘Yes Sir, I Can Boogie’ van Baccara op in de nieuwste editie van de Britse charts. Hoe dat kan? Het zit zo: het is uitgegroeid tot de Schotse onofficiële Euro 2020 anthem. Na een serie bloedstollende penalties versloeg het Schotse team de voetbalploeg van Servië. Na de overwinning vierde de Schotse ploeg een feestje in hun kleedkamer waarbij luidruchtig gedanst werd op Baccara`s zomerhit uit 1977. Dat werd gefilmd en ging viraal.
Dit alles kwam Maria Mendiola van Baccara ter ore: “I’m delighted that the players love the song so much. It’s incredible that the Scottish team are boogie-ing to it.I would love to re-record the song for the Euro 2020 tournament if the people of Scotland would want that. We would be very happy to do that.” De single ‘Yes sir, I can boogie’ ging in totaal 16 miljoen keer over de toonbank en bereikte in de Nederlandse Top Veertig in 1977 de eerste plaats.
