“Perfect Way to Die” wordt de nieuwe single van Alicia Keys. Voor het nummer is de vijftienvoudige Grammy-winnares geïnspireerd door de moord op Mike Brown (2014) en Sandra Bland (2015). De zwart getinte Brown werd gedood door de politie Ferguson, Missouri, terwijl Bland zichzelf een jaar later ophing in een politiecel, nadat ze opgepakt was voor een klein verkeersvergrijp. “You hear these stories, and you hear their stories in these lyrics and the devastating thing is that it’s never not going to be relevant,” aldus Keys.
“And where we are right now, in the world and in this country, in American particularly, we are in a real, a real place that we can all see that this is the most major pandemic of all. This deeply rooted racism, this police brutality, this treatment of black people that is just completely unacceptable. To the point where daily daily we are seeing lives lost, people murdered for… nothing, nothing. For being black.” Hoe actueel het onderwerp is gebleven, bewijst het huidige klimaat in Ameria na de moord op George Floyd en Rayshard Brooks. ‘Perfect way to die’ is te vinden op het nieuwe album van de zangeres: ‘Alicia’ , net als o.a. ‘Tiem machine’ en ‘Underdog’.
